Georgia joined UNESCO Constitution in 1992. In 1995 Georgia and UNESCO signed Memorandum on Cooperation.
The National Commission of Georgia was established on 15 September 1994 and reorganised in 2004, when the President of Georgia issued Decree No 508 On the Adoption of the Statut of the National Commission of Georgia for UNESCO.
The Commission is housed within the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and consists of 12 members, the President of the Commission is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, and the members are Deputy Ministers of the Ministries of Georgia, the Heads and Representatives of National Broadcasting, National Museum, International Center of Folklore, Patriarchy of Georgia and Film Center. The Commission meets twice a year to discuss the priority issues, in which UNESCO can participate.
